The Price of Choosing Yourself

Healing

A poem by Shannon Kaiser to help you heal self-abandonment and betrayal wounds.

They’ll call it selfish until they see how peaceful it looks.

Some envy you, and what they don’t understand.

Instead of focusing on their own healing, they compare.
Instead of rising, they project.
They think your peace is a privilege, but it’s proof of what they’re avoiding

Some say they care—

but they build alliances against you in the shadows.
For them, loyalty is leverage.

They can’t understand peace that isn’t performative,
so they mistake your boundaries for arrogance
and try to destroy what they can’t control.

They Wanted a Scandal. I Chose Sovereignty.

Some judge you for no reason. They assume you have it all,
so they try to make life harder for you, just to feel powerful.

Even others, “flying monkeys,” get pulled in, acting on lies
they never stopped to question.

Imagine spending your time and energy
hurting someone on purpose
whose only intention is love, understanding, and peace.

Now imagine it isn’t just one person, one time…

imagine it is not just small group, but patterns repeating
across different people and groups your entire life.

Those who think you have it easy
have no idea how much breaking it took to build the current you.

Those who think you have no problems
have no idea how many betrayals you’ve had to rise from, including them.

Those who assume you’re just lucky
don’t see the years you spent rebuilding and redefining from ruins.

The truth is:

People will always see you
through the limits of their own perception.

They don’t see the courage it takes to stay kind
in a world that punishes authenticity.

Both were broken, only one becomes free.

Some people get hurt and feel justified in hurting others.
Others get hurt and love even harder.
We love in the ways that would have healed us
when others harmed us.
We refuse to be part of a harmful cycle.

Envy, judgment, and hate are wasted life force.

It takes far less energy to love.
Choose wisely.

The Strongest People Don’t Roar—They Rise.

The strong ones don’t flex strength;
we carry it quietly, because we had no other choice.

We don’t complain—we alchemize
pain into power and purpose.

The strong ones don’t waste time on revenge.
We stay rooted in truth, refocusing on making
the world softer than it found us.

The strong ones don’t defend themselves

we redefine truth against the lies.
We don’t argue our worth, we embody it.
The strong ones don’t get defeated, we evolve.
We ascend.

The Day I Stopped Trying to Be Understood

Is the Day I Finally Felt Free.

True strength is having the courage
to let go of your need to be liked and accepted.

After a lifetime of being misunderstood,
I’ve learned a secret: people only see what they’re ready to see.

When you stop wasting your precious energy
trying to be understood and liked,
you find authentic peace, and lies and smears can’t harm you.

Because what matters most

is how you see yourself,
and Divine Source (God, the Universe, Divine Light, your Higher Power)
already knows you are worthy.

When you stop caring about appearances, approval, and perception,
and stop focusing on how it looks,
you start feeling how it’s meant to feel.

Truth replaces ego-based performance.
That’s freedom.

If you’re ready to meet

the version of you who no longer abandons herself,
or mistakes others’ projections for truth, start here.

ABOUT the Author

Hi, I’m Shannon. What tried to break me built this mission. You're not the problem, and you never were.

As a highly sensitive and empathic woman, I became a target for manipulation, and covert abuse disguised as love, friendship, and mentorship. It took hitting emotional rock bottom, after betrayals, gaslighting, and repeated boundary violations, for me to finally say: enough. I walked away, but the real healing began when I turned inward. This work is the result of that return to self. The She Saves Herself Collective was born from a deep knowing: that healing isn’t about going back, it’s about becoming who we were always meant to be.
